A Southern California auto accident involving a car and a Greyhound bus claimed the lives of six people and left dozens injured. The incident took place early on Thursday, July 22, 2010.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a driver of a Greyhound bus swerved to avoid colliding with another car. The maneuver caused the bus to slam through a highway divider and hit another vehicle.
“The bus collided with a second vehicle and once it collided with that vehicle, it went down an embankment, down 15 feet or so,” said California Highway Patrol spokesperson Matt Radke. “The front of the bus was sheared off.”
A total of six people lost their lives, including the bus driver. Five of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene while the sixth victim died while being transported to a local hospital.
According to reports, 33 other people were injured in the wreck, nine of them seriously injured. It was unclear if the injured were all passengers from the Greyhound bus.
At the time of the incident, the bus was traveling from Los Angeles to Sacramento.
The fatal Southern California car accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
This is a terrible accident and our thoughts and condolences go out to all of those who have been affected by this tragedy.
