Simi Valley Car Accident Claims the Life of 90-Year-Old Woman

Posted on Feb 19, 2012

A 90-Year-Old woman lost her life in a Simi Valley car accident when her vehicle collided with a sport utility vehicle (SUV). The incident took place at approximately 1:30 on Monday afternoon, January 16, 2012, at Ventu Park Road and Lynn Road.

According to TOPD Sgt. Barbara Payton, Floriene Hamel, 90, of Newbury Park, was making a left turn onto eastbound Lynn Road from Ventu Park Road when her car was struck by a 2000 Ford Expedition. Rescue crews transported her to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the SUV has been identified as Wendi Tovey, 43, also of Newbury Park. She was traveling with seven 9-year-old girls at the time of the accident.

Fortunately, none of the girls were seriously injured. Sgt. Payton indicated that the girls received some “bumps and bruises” as a result of the collision. It was unclear if Ms. Tovey was injured.

The fatal Simi Valley car accident is still under investigation by local authorities as they determine who was at fault.

We extend our thoughts and condolences to Ms. Hamel’s family and friends during this tragic time.
