A Santa Barbara truck accident claims the lives of three victims after a truck plows through a home. The incident took place on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, along State Highway 154.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a truck carrying tons of gravel lost control, hit two parked cars and slammed into a house after driving off an embankment. The accident claimed the lives of a man, a woman and a child who were inside the home at the time of the wreck.
Santa Barbara County fire Capt. David Sadecki said that the house was completely flattened.
“Everything fell down,” said next door neighbor Erasmo Zapien. “It was completely down.”
According to witnesses, smoke was seen billowing from under the truck as it headed down the hill at speeds of approximately 50 mph. Officials believe that the truck’s brakes may have failed.
The driver of the truck has been identified as Joaquin Garcia Morales. He apparently had just collected a load of gravel prior to the incident.
The Santa Barbara truck accident is still under investigation by local authorities. However, no charges were immediately filed and investigators do not believe that alcohol played a role in the crash.
This is an unfortunate incident and our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.
