A Riverside car accident involving two vehicles, including a school bus, leaves five people injured. The incident took place on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, along State Route 60.
According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Joe Borja, a 44-year-old man drove the wrong way on an off-ramp and slammed into a school bus. The bus was carrying seven students at the time of the accident.
The accident left three high school students and the bus driver with injuries. Fortunately, their injuries were only minor.
The driver also sustained minor injuries. His identity was not immediately made known.
Police have indicated that they believe that the driver intentionally crashed head-on into the school bus. Borja indicated that it was unclear as to whether the accident was an attempted suicide but regardless, the driver could face criminal charges.
“It’s pretty crazy, you never expect something like that is going to happen when you’re on a school bus,” said Salvador Valdez, who was seated in the fourth row of the bus.
The Riverside auto accident is still under investigation by local authorities, as officials try and determine the driver’s motive for plowing into the school bus.
This is a terrible incident and we wish all the victims a speedy recovery during this difficult time.
