An Alameda County deputy probation officer was charged with vehicular manslaughter after causing a fatal California bicycle accident on June 15th, according to the San Lorenzo Patch. The victim was 56-year-old Timothy Bucher, of San Leandro.
The officer, 32-year-old Eunique Wesley, was driving eastbound in her 1995 Honda Civic on Fairmont Drive near Foothill Boulevard between Castro Valley and San Leandro, when she struck Bucher, who was also traveling in the same direction. According to the article, Wesley looked down while driving, causing her car to veer to the right and hit the bicyclist.
The car was traveling at 35 mph at the time of the crash; Bucher was wearing a helmet but still suffered traumatic brain injuries from the bicycle accident.
Wesley is scheduled to appear for her arraignment on Sept. 23 at Alameda County Superior Court in Hayward.
