A Pacoima car accident involving two vehicles and a commuter train critically injures two. The incident took place at approximately 7:00 AM on Wednesday morning, December 23, 2009, in the San Fernando Valley city.
According to authorities, a Toyota Camry was rear-ended by a Nissan pickup truck after the vehicle pulled over for a police car that had its siren turned-on. The force of the impact forced the truck onto nearby railroad tracks. An oncoming Metrolink commuter train then slammed into the Nissan.
The driver of the Nissan, a 38-year-old Sun Valley man and a 2-year-old child, were transported to a nearby hospital and treated for critical injuries. The child was in a car seat when the incident occurred. Their identities have not been released by authorities.
According to Los Angeles Police Officer Rosario Herrera, the impact forced the Toyota off the road and onto a dirt strip along the tracks. The two unidentified victims in the Toyota were transported to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills and were reported as being in stable condition.
Metrolink spokesperson Angela Starr reported that there were 36 passengers on board the commuter train at the time of the accident. Eight of the passengers complained of minor injuries.
The Pacoima accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
