After a tragically fatal California bicycle accident that took the life of her husband, Michele Neff Hernandez started an event to raise awareness about bicycle safety and sharing the road, called Soaring Spirits Loss Foundation.
The Ventura County Star reports that Hernandez has organized a Share the Road Memorial Ride for the second year in a row to be held in Simi Valley on October 22.
The ride is 15 miles long. Last year, 40 cyclists came out to show their support and raise money for the Foundation.
Michele's husband, Phil, died in 2005 after suffering a traumatic brain injury caused by the bicycle accident when he was struck by a car.
In addition to the ride, there will be a bicycle expo, vendors, music, and a barbeque. Cyclists who are interested in participating in the event can visit www.sharetheroadridesv.com and register for $60 through Friday night. On-site registration will cost $75. The event begins at 7 a.m. Saturday at the Simi Valley DMV office.
