According to authorities, a man was killed on a Riverside freeway when he was hit by a sports utility vehicle. The incident took place on the westbound 91 Freeway, just outside the Los Angeles area, between Arlington Avenue and Central Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal Riverside pedestrian accident was reported at 8:35 PM on Monday evening, September 21, 2009.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office has not released the name or the age of the victim involved in the accident. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 8:40 PM, according to the coroner’s office. The make and model of the vehicle involved in the incident has not been made available.
The California Highway Patrol has reported that sections of a chain-link fence and about 20 feet of a guardrail along the freeway were damaged in the fatal accident.
Other motorists traveling westbound on the 91 were inconvenienced when at least one lane of the freeway was shut down due to the investigation and clean-up. The lane was apparently blocked for approximately two hours.
The California Highway Patrol has reported that at least one vehicle had been towed for possible evidence to determine the cause of the crash.
