A Culver City car accident involving a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) patrol car leaves a woman dead and two officers injured. The incident took place in Culver City just before midnight on Thursday, October 15, 2009.
The crash took place at the intersection of Glendon Avenue and Venice Boulevard when a LAPD police cruiser crashed into the side of a car driven by Devin Petelski, 25. The police car struck Petelski’s driver’s side door and then careened off the road where it eventually hit a tree and a traffic sign.
There were two officers in the police cruiser at the time of the accident. Both officers suffered injuries. The driver of the cruiser suffered a fractured hand and lacerations to his elbow. The second officer suffered abrasions. It was not made known if the two officers were transported to a local hospital. The two officers have not been identified.
Petelski suffered the most severe injuries. She was transported to a local hospital and immediately placed on life support. She was taken off of life support on October 17, 2009 and later pronounced dead.
The crash is still under investigation by authorities. The cause if the accident has not been determined.
