Helmet Saves Life of Boy Stuck Under SUV after Car Accident

Posted on Jun 21, 2011

A 9-year-old boy's helmet saved his life after what could have been a fatal California car accident, according to the Union Tribune.

The boy was riding his bicycle to school on a Friday morning when he was struck by an SUV and then became stuck underneath the vehicle. Firefighters were able to release the boy using cribbing and airbags, and he was then transported by ambulance to Rady Children's Hospital.

Luckily, the boy only suffered minor injuries, and the firefighters and paramedics believe that his bicycle helmet can be attributed to his survival. He has been released from the hospital.

Police are planning to present the boy with a new bicycle helmet at an assembly focused on the importance of helmet safety once the boy returns to school.

The California child accident lawyers at Steinberg & Spencer also want to remind parents and children to always replace a helmet after it has been involved in any sort of collision with a car or other hard object, even if there doesn't appear to be any damage to the helmet.
