A San Diego woman is killed in an apparent car accident when her car veers off Route 56 in Rancho Penasquitos. The fatal accident, which took place just north of San Diego, occurred early Thursday morning, September 1, 2009. According to police, the incident may have taken place the night before.
The victim, who has not been identified as of yet, is reported as being in the U.S. Army. The 23-year-old woman died when her Volkswagen Jetta veered of the road, striking a fence and then rolling down an embankment. According to California High Patrol Officer Kenneth Jackman, the car overturned at least once.
The victim was found inside her car beneath the freeway on Carmel Valley Road just west of Camino Del Sur.
According to Jackman, a motorist found the Jetta across the street from Evergreen Nursery in Rancho Penasquitos at approximately 5:45 AM while traveling to work. The motorist indicated that the vehicle had not been there the prior evening around 5:30 PM.
Jackman reported that the victim was found partially ejected from her car. She was still in the driver’s seat with a seat belt on, he said.
The San Diego crash is still under investigation.
