El Rio Car Accident Claims the Lives of Two Cousins

An El Rio car accident involving a single vehicle claims the lives of two cousins after their vehicle slams into a power pole. The incident took place at approximately 3:00 PM on Sunday afternoon, January 22, 2011, along Rose Avenue, just south of Central Avenue.

According to reports, Silvano Aquino Vasquez, 24, and Juan Aquino Garcia, 24, both from Oxnard, lost their lives after their vehicle slammed into a power pole. The two men have been reported as being cousins.

Officials report that both men had to be extricated from the vehicle and were both pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Reports indicate that Vasquez was the driver of the tan sedan that slammed into the power pole while Garcia was riding in the front passenger’s seat. A third victim was reported as fleeing the accident scene and later apprehended by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. The Oxnard man was treated for minor injuries and later released without charge.

Ventura County Senior Deputy Medical Examiner Craig Stevens reported that investigators are waiting for toxicology reports to determine if either of the deceased victims had alcohol in their systems at the time of the crash.

The fatal El Rio auto accident is still under investigation by local authorities. Officials believe that Vasquez was driving erratic when he lost control of the vehicle.
