The Ventura County Star reported that the California Highway Patrol will be cracking down on speeding drivers on Highway 33 north of Ojai starting in late April.
The article states that according to the California Highway Patrol, 70 motorcycle accident injuries and four fatal motorcycle crashes occurred on Highway 33 from 2007 to 2010. Of those accidents, 90 percent of them happened because of speeding, and all of the accidents were north of Ojai.
Since the highway is a one-lane road with a small shoulder, there are not many places for motorcycles to go if they are passed by speeding cars. Many riders use the highway as a scenic route to take on the weekends, which is why almost 70 percent of accidents take place on Saturday or Sunday.
Law enforcement agents hope that making their presence known on Highway 33 will strengthen their pledge of zero tolerance for speeding. In turn, this will hopefully result in a decrease in motorcycle accident injuries.
