Posted on Oct 13, 2010

A Chatsworth car accident involving a single vehicle claims the life of one and leaves another in critical condition. The incident took place at approximately 2:15 AM on Wednesday morning, October 6, 2010, in the 10700 block of Corbin Avenue.

According to reports, the driver of a 1996 Honda Accord lost control of his vehicle along Corbin Avenue near Chatsworth Street and slammed into a tree and light pole. The driver has been identified as Alvaro Espino Perez, 25, of Northridge.

Rescue crews transported Perez to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries sustained in the wreck. He was listed in critical condition.

Segundo Thomas Gomez, 25, also of Northridge, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

“A light drizzle may have been falling in the area before the crash, but there was no indication slick road conditions were a factor,” said Los Angeles police Sgt. Ed Washak of the Valley Traffic Division.

The fatal Chatsworth auto accident is still under investigation by local authorities. Police indicate that they believe Perez was speeding when he lost control of the vehicle.

The is a terrible incident and we would like to extend our thoughts and condolences to everyone who has been affected by it.
