A Carmel Mountain car accident involving six vehicles claimed the life of one person and leaves four others injured following a chain-reaction crash. The incident took place at approximately 9:15 PM on Friday evening, August 20, 2010, at the intersection of Camino Del Norte and Carmel Mountain Road.
According to San Diego police Sgt. Ron Glass, a 57-year-old man was traveling eastbound on Camino Del Norte at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended a Toyota Corolla, which was stopped at a red light. Rescue crews transported the unidentified driver to Palomar Medical Center where he was treated for minor injures.
The driver of the Corolla that was rear-ended was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Officials did not release his name.
There were four other vehicles involved in the collision. One of the vehicles was occupied by a woman and three children. They complained of pain, however, they were treated at the scene and released shortly after. The drivers of the other three vehicles were transported to local hospitals and treated for injuries sustained in the accidents. Their conditions were not immediately made known.
The Carmel Mountain auto accident is still under investigation by local authorities. It was unclear as to what caused the original driver to slam into the Corolla.
This is a tragedy and our thoughts and condolences go out to all of those who have been affected by this terrible accident.
