Big Rig Catches Fire Along Interstate 5 and Injures Several

A Burbank accident involving a semi truck that caught on fire injures at least two. The incident took place at approximately 6:00 AM on Tuesday morning, October 27, 2009 along the Golden State (5) Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass.

The Burbank truck accident happened in the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway at Alameda Avenue when a semi truck crashed into a center divider and ignited into flames. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos, the truck came to rest partially in the southbound side of the freeway.

According to reports, the truck’s cab caught on fire. The driver of the truck suffered only minor injuries.

It has also been reported that five other cars were involved in the incident injuring at least one. The extent of the injuries and whether any of the victims required hospitalization was not made known. Several of the other vehicles involved were smashed under the semi truck, temporarily trapping at least one victim.

The accident forced the California Highway Patrol to shut down several lanes in each direction as crews worked to clean up the debris from the accident during the morning rush hour commute.

The incident is still under investigation by local authorities.
