A woman was struck while riding her bicycle on at the intersection of 20th and Colorado in Santa Monica, according to the Santa Monica Patch.
Police report that the cyclist was hit when the bus driver moved into the intersection after the light changed around 10:40am.
The woman was taken to the hospital to treat her scrapes and abrasions. Witnesses say she was alert and speaking to paramedics before riding in the emergency vehicle.
The Santa Monica bicycle accident lawyers at Steinberg Spencer urge drivers to always be on the lookout for pedestrians and bicyclists. Pausing for an extra moment before entering an intersection or stopping when a light turns yellow can keep safe any people still crossing.
Walkers and riders can also help prevent accidents by remembering to wear reflective gear when out during the night and always using the proper sidewalks and bike lanes. Crossing only at crosswalks is key to avoiding being struck, as is making sure to follow all traffic laws.
