Q: I was injured in a car accident in San Diego and am starting to feel some pain in my lower back.  I have not been to the doctor yet and was wondering if there is anything specific that I need to tell the physician.

A: Even if you had felt fine after the auto accident, it is always a good idea to get checked out by the doctor following a collision.  Some symptoms do not show up right away and can take several hours, and sometimes days, to surface.

When you do go to the doctor, be sure to report all of your symptoms, no matter how minor you believe them to be.  List all of your complaints to your doctor, as these could be signs of something more serious or a condition that is developing from the car accident. However, don’t exaggerate your symptoms or the severity of your car accident, as it will not help you with your car accident claim, if you choose to file one.

Once the doctor has identified your condition, be sure to follow up with your recommended treatments.  If you don’t get treatment or miss appointments, it could hurt your chances of obtaining an appropriate settlement for your injuries.
