Understanding California Motorcycle Helmet Laws

Most motorcyclists understand the fact that they stand a greater chance of becoming seriously injured in a accident while riding a motorcycle than they would if they were in a car. The downside to a motorcycle vs. a car is that a motorcycle does not offer its rider the same protection as a car does.

A Southern California motorcycle accident can result in serious head injury. That is why the state of California has developed specific motorcycle helmet laws to help protect your head and brain in a motorcycle wreck.

If you are a motorcyclist, you need to understand that California law, though it may differ from other states, requires all riders and passengers to wear a safety helmet when operating a bike. A helmet is designed to protect your head in the event of a collision.

Eye protection is recommended by the DMV, but not required. A motorcyclist may want to consider a face shield or goggles when riding.

California law allows for a motorcycle helmet to have only one speaker earphone. Riders may also use earplugs.

If you or someone you know has been hurt in a Southern California motorcycle crash, you should contact one of our experienced Los Angeles motorcycle accident attorneys at Steinberg & Spencer at (800) 989-6385.
