New California Motorcycle Law Governing Sound

Have you ever wondered about the dangers of loud motorcycles and if the high volumes could lead to a serious motorcycle accident?  If so, your concerns may have merit. For example, a loud motorcycle could drown out a honking horn warning you of danger or a siren.

California has implemented a new law that will limit the sound level of all street motorcycles built on or after January 1, 2013. The law will require that these bikes have an exhaust system label certifying that the bikes meet federal sound limits.

Violators could face a financial inconvenience. The first offense can result in a fine of up to $100. Each additional offense could cost up to $250.

However, the violation is considered a secondary offense. A police officer cannot pull over a motorcyclist just because the bike was too loud.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a Southern California motorcycle accident, you should contact one of our experienced Riverside motorcycle accident attorneys at Steinberg & Spencer Injury Lawyers at (800) 989-6385.
