A
Hillcrest auto accident involving a San Diego police cruiser and an out-of-control vehicle leaves at least two injured. The incident took place at approximately 11:15 AM on Thursday morning, September 9, 2010, along State Route 163.
According to San Diego police department (SDPD) detective Gary Hassen, a San Diego police officer pulled her cruiser over along the southbound lanes of State Route 163 near Washington Street to assist a disabled motorist. That is when an out-of-control car veered off the road and struck the female officer’s police cruiser.
The officer had spotted the swerving car and was able to jump back into her cruiser before the collision. The force of the impact forced her cruiser into the back of the disabled vehicle.
Rescue crews transported the officer and at least one other person involved in the wreck to a nearby hospital where they were treated for injuries sustained in the accident. Fortunately, their injuries were described as minor.
The Hillcrest car accident is still under investigation by local authorities. It was not immediately made known as to what caused the driver of the vehicle to swerve into the police car.
This is an unfortunate accident and we wish all the victims a speedy recovery during this difficult time.
