Are Hands-Free Phones That Much Safer Than Hand-Held Phones?

Many states, like California, have instituted laws that prohibit drivers from using hand-held cell phone devices while they operate a vehicle. As a result, we have seen a technological explosion in the development of hands-free phone equipment. However, are hands-free devices truly safer?

According to a recent study in the National Safety Council’s Journal of Safety Research, there is little difference in the risks associated with using a hands-free device versus a hand-held phone. As a matter of fact, the study concluded that the use of any type of cell phone can have an adverse affect on a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely.

The study shows that using any form of a cell phone while driving impacts the brain’s ability to focus on driving in a safe manner. They are as equally dangerous.

The fact of the matter is that using any type of cell phone, whether it is hands-free or a hand-held unit can lead to a serious Southern California car accident. You or a family member could be left with a serious injury, as a result.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a car accident, you should contact one of our experienced Southern California car accident attorneys at Steinberg & Spencer at (800) 989-6385 for a free consultation.
