What Now? After the Chatsworth Metrolink Train Accident
psteinberg September 23rd, 2008
Now that the dust has settled after the horrific Metrolink train accident in Chatsworth California on September 12, I want to take this opportunity to extend not only heartfelt sympathy to the families of the injured and deceased, but to reflect on how such a catastrophic train crash changed the lives of so many families forever.  At Steinberg & Spencer we have handled only serious injury accidents for over 26 years and this ranks among one of the worst cases of accidental death  involving a train that we have ever seen.  This accident knew no racial, age or gender boundries.Â
In an article written in the Los Angeles Times, Metrolink has had the most fatalities of any commuter railroad in the country in the last decade. There have been three deadly Metrolink train accidents in the past five years alone. Since 1999 there have been over 74 deaths resulting from incidents involving Metrolink trains. Metrolink must step up and do all that they can to impose better safety standards.  They can learn from the commuter trains that have been running safely over time in busy cities such as Chicago.
As a personal injury attorney, my firm is here to help families put their lives back together. We can not undo the devastation caused by this unfortunate event. What we can do is represent those injured or suffering loss of loved ones.  We can do this by obtaining the physical and financial support from the responsible party. As in any situation where we represent those who have been wronged through an accidental injury, we hope to see new laws and practices put into place in order to prevent such needless death and injury in the future.
